De D8 NFC-lezer is een pc-gekoppelde lezer die voldoet aan alle NFC-functionaliteiten en is ontwikkeld op basis van 13,56 MHz contactloze technologie. Hij beschikt over 4 SAM-sleuven (Secure Access Module) die meerdere beveiligingsniveaus bieden voor contactloze transacties. Firmware-upgrades na installatie worden ook ondersteund, waardoor extra hardwareaanpassingen niet nodig zijn.
De D8 NFC-lezer ondersteunt de drie NFC-modi: kaartlezen/schrijven, kaartemulatie en peer-to-peer-communicatie. Hij ondersteunt ISO 14443 Type A- en B-kaarten, MIFARE®, FeliCa en ISO 18092-compatibele NFC-tags. Ook andere NFC-apparaten met een toegangssnelheid tot 424 Kbps en een nabijheidsbereik tot 50 mm (afhankelijk van het gebruikte tagtype) zijn compatibel. Deze plug-and-play USB NFC-lezer is compatibel met zowel CCID als PC/SC en is daardoor interoperabiliteit met diverse apparaten en toepassingen mogelijk. Hij is dus ideaal voor onconventionele marketing- en reclametoepassingen zoals slimme posters.
